Directing

ROVE LA SEASON 2 LAUNCH Karen came to our team with the idea ‘Anything is possible in Hollywood’ for Rove’s second season of Rove L.A. I learned on this job that anything is possible when you work with an awesome team. This was the tightest shoot and somehow we managed to get Rove with a car on fire, in 20 different positions for his ‘Malkovich’ moment, jumping and hanging on green screens. There is so much to be said for Karen’s excellent direction and the production management. Rove was the ultimate professional and ploughed through everything we needed. Working on the post was a ball with everyone stepping up to contribute. There were a few late nights to make deadline and we figured out that Geoff Thomson should never eat a full bag of Allens snakes in one hit, or shit gets weird. Rove LA was one of my favourite shoots to work on. Launching this second season needed to feel like ‘In Hollywood Anything is Possible’ and Rove could get any guest he wanted. After pre-production and location scouting, I enjoyed directing the talent and crew on the day right through to editing the final promo, the shoot came in on time and in budget. Working right from the start with incredible motion designers, bought the whole concept to life in the end. Below is an example of how the final shot was put together in graphics by Sal Book and Leo Nguyen. Followed by other examples of my work.

Making image like spots for the season finals of Top Model was always one of my favourite jobs. Here are a few fun concepts that tease the finalists before we aired the live finals.

We had 2 hours to shoot with Dannii in Melbourne for the launch of her new show, in true promo fashion just before the shoot day, the whole concept of making a flip out book to reveal her entire life was canned and I quickly re-wrote a script to simply focus on her fashion, this new idea was approved just in time to shoot.

We had promoted American Idol many times before and needed a different idea to introduce the new series. I came up with the idea that ‘IT’ was the biggest show on earth and researched some fun little ways of showing just how big it was. These were basically storyboarded out and bought to life by our incredibly fast and creative designers. Along with the greater launch spots, these little teasers aired first.
